Organising downloaded Facebook videos is entirely a job for your own device, because FB DownS has no library, no tagging, no folders and no cloud sync — the file simply saves to your Downloads folder or your phone's Gallery and our involvement ends there. The good news is that a workable system takes about ten minutes to set up: rename each file as you save it using a consistent pattern, keep a shallow folder tree rather than a deep one, and pick a single backup destination. That combination will still make sense to you in a year, which is more than any automatic tagging feature reliably achieves.
Does FB DownS have a library, tags or sync?
No, and it's worth stating plainly, because people search specifically for downloaders that tag videos automatically, sync across devices or drop files into a media library. FB DownS does none of that. It takes one Facebook link at a time on /facebook-video-download, shows the available qualities with the file size beside each, and starts a download. There is no account, no app, no extension, no batch mode, no scheduling and no API.
That's a design choice with a direct benefit. Your download transfers directly from Facebook's CDN to your browser — nothing routes through our servers, and no record of what you downloaded is kept anywhere. A library feature would require the opposite: storing your files and your history on someone else's machine.
Where your downloaded videos actually go
The first hurdle is usually just finding the file. The destination depends entirely on your device and browser, not on us:
- Windows — the Downloads folder in your user profile. The browser's downloads list (Ctrl+J) has a 'Show in folder' option.
- macOS — the Downloads folder in Finder; the stack in the Dock is the fastest route to the newest file.
- iPhone and iPad — Safari saves to the Files app under Downloads, not to Photos. You have to move it into Photos yourself if you want it in your camera roll.
- Android — the Download folder, visible in Files by Google or your phone's own file manager. Some browsers and galleries pick it up automatically, some don't.
- Linux — usually ~/Downloads, following the same browser conventions as Windows and macOS.
Whatever the platform, the file arrives as a plain MP4 with no re-encoding applied, so it opens in every player, editor and photo app without conversion. What it usually doesn't arrive with is a helpful name — which is the next problem to solve.
A naming convention that survives a year
Facebook's filenames are numeric and meaningless, and a folder full of them is unsearchable. A good convention encodes the three things you'll actually search by: when, who, and what. Something like 2025-07-20_creator-name_topic.mp4 sorts chronologically by default, groups by creator when you sort alphabetically, and tells you what's inside without opening it.
- Copy the video link from the Share menu on Facebook and paste it on /facebook-video-download.
- Pick a quality — check the file size shown next to each option if storage matters to you.
- As soon as the download finishes, rename the file: date first in YYYY-MM-DD form, then the source or creator, then two or three words describing the content.
- Use hyphens or underscores rather than spaces, and keep it lowercase; that keeps the name safe across Windows, macOS, Android and cloud services.
- Move it out of Downloads into its proper folder straight away, so Downloads stays a waiting room rather than an archive.
- If the video matters, copy it to your backup location in the same sitting rather than promising yourself you'll do it later.
A folder structure for larger collections
For a handful of videos, one folder is fine. Once you're into dozens, a shallow two-level structure works better than a deep one: a top folder such as Facebook Videos, then a second level by purpose or by year — Reference, Family, Work-2025, Recipes. Two levels are enough that nothing is buried and few enough that you never have to think about where something belongs.
Resist the temptation to build a folder per creator or per month; those trees look tidy on day one and become an obstacle by month three. If you need a cross-cutting view, macOS Finder tags and Windows file properties both hold that information without moving anything — do the tagging in your own file system, since no downloader can do it for you.
Adding videos to Photos and Google Photos
A lot of people would rather keep videos alongside their own photos than in a file manager, and that works well because the MP4 needs no conversion. On iPhone, open the Files app, find the video under Downloads, tap Share and choose Save Video — it then appears in Photos and syncs with iCloud like anything else. On Android, most galleries index the Download folder automatically; if yours doesn't, open Google Photos, use the device-folders view, and turn on backup for the Download folder.
On desktop, dragging the file into the Photos app on macOS or uploading it to Google Photos in a browser does the same thing. One caveat: photo apps organise by date, and a downloaded file's date is the day you saved it, not the day the video was posted. That's another reason to put the real date in the filename.
Backing up to Drive, Dropbox or a hard drive
There's no cloud storage on our side, so any copy that survives a lost phone is one you made yourself. The simplest approach is to pick one destination and use it consistently: a Google Drive or Dropbox folder that syncs from your computer, or an external drive you plug in monthly. Copying a folder to an external disk or a USB stick is a drag-and-drop operation, and for anything you'd be upset to lose, doing both is the honest advice.
Video files are large, so watch your free tier. This is where choosing Standard quality on the download pays twice — a smaller file is faster to download and cheaper to keep. If a collection is getting away from you, deleting the videos you'll never rewatch is a legitimate organising step and usually the fastest one.
Moving videos between devices
Because there's no account and no sync, moving a video from your phone to your laptop is a normal file transfer: AirDrop between Apple devices, Nearby Share on Android, a shared cloud folder for mixed setups, or a cable. A media server such as Plex or Jellyfin will serve the same MP4 to a TV once the file sits in a watched folder, and a USB stick still works on most smart TVs.
None of this needs special software, which is rather the point. You end up with ordinary MP4 files, named sensibly, in a folder you chose, backed up where you decided — nothing locked inside an app that might disappear. Keep the collection to public videos and your own uploads, keep it for personal offline use, and respect the creator's copyright before you share any of it further.
