You cannot download a stream while it is still running

This is the single most important thing to understand, and it is why so many Live downloaders appear broken. Facebook Live has an unusual problem that ordinary video posts do not: the content is often unrepeatable. A service, a lecture, a community meeting or a family event is streamed once and never uploaded anywhere else. If the host removes the replay — and many do, within days — that recording is gone permanently. Why timing is the whole problem

Almost every failed Live download comes down to timing rather than the tool. While a broadcast is running, Facebook is receiving and encoding a stream in real time — there is no complete file sitting on a server waiting to be copied. When the host stops, Facebook assembles the recording and publishes it, which takes minutes for a short Live and considerably longer for one that ran for hours. Try too early and you get nothing, which people naturally read as the downloader being broken. It is worth waiting and trying again before concluding anything is wrong.

Long broadcasts mean large files

A three-hour Live at HD is not a small download, and this catches people out. On a phone with limited storage or a metered connection, the SD version is often the sensible choice; on a laptop over Wi-Fi, take the HD. If the broadcast is a talk, a sermon or a panel where nothing visual matters, the audio-only MP3 is dramatically smaller and perfectly sufficient. Choosing the right format up front avoids a stalled download three quarters of the way through.

Quality is capped by how it was streamed

Live broadcasts are frequently sent at lower bitrates than uploaded videos, because the host's upload speed has to keep up in real time. That means a Live replay may genuinely have no HD version at all, even when the same host's normal video posts do. If you hosted it, check Facebook first

This is worth saying plainly. Private broadcasts stay private
